How to Install TWRP recovery on Motorola Moto G5 Plus

The Motorola G5 Plus might be a great Android Nougat based device in terms of performance and price tag but that is just not enough especially if you are used with high end smartphones. That’s why, if you want to obtain the best results you have to consider some tweaking solutions for your handset. And in that respect, today I will show you how easy is to install the latest version of TWRP recovery on your own Moto G5 Plus – and yes, you have it all explained and detailed below.

TWRP recovery is a custom recovery environment that can succesfully replace the stock recovery that come’s pre-loaded on Android. So, even though we are talking about a third party app, you can still get the same recovery support while using TWRP recovery instead of stock software. In fact, with this custom recovery flashed you will extend your access as you will have new options from where to choose and in the same time you won’t have to deal with factory and default restrictions while trying to complete certain processes.

And when talking about TWRP recovery everything should be about tweaking operations. If through the stock recovery you can apply only official procedures (such as making a hard reset, smartly manage new OTAs or clearing app data cache) by using TWRP recovery you can now take care of more complex operations like gaining root access (by flashing TWRP recovery), save the current Android system by making a Nandroid backup, install root-only apps and flash custom ROMs and Mods by applying dedicated .zip files, add custom kernels, remove bloatware, overclock or undervolt your Moto G5 Plus and so on.

And applying all these procedures can be done without hassle even by newbies or by inexperienced Android users – the TWRP recovery software offers a touch based interface and intuitive settings that can guide you through different complex tasks.

Unfortunately, replacing the stock recovery image with TWRP recovery is not an official operation as the flashing process that’s detailed during this tutorial isn’t supported by Motorola or by Google. The custom recovery image is developed and also offered by third party devs which makes this operation an unofficial one. That’s why I must conclude these aspects with the following statement: the warranty of your Moto G5 Plus will be lost once you begin the steps from down below, so from this perspective you have to be extremely careful in order to avoid further unpleasant situations.

While installing TWRP recovery you will have to wipe the system of your phone – that’s for making sure that everything works without problems. However, that’s why you should make a backup first. If saving your personal files and some system data will be skipped your will end up in losing important info that might be required afterwards. Therefore, I strongly recommending you to use your favorite backup and restore solutions in order to secure what you might have to use afterwards. On the Moto G5 Plus you can use built-in cloud storage platforms, you can also try to sync your data with your Google Account and you can even access the Google Play store for getting already tested, and mostly free-distributed, backup and restore tools.

After doing so you must ensure one thing: the bootloader of your Motorola Moto G5 Plus must be unlocked or else you won’t be able to flash and use the TWRP recovery software. You can easily unlock the bootloder of your smartphone by using our dedicated tutorial from this page.

Then, you must use your personal computer for applying all the steps from below. On this computer the Moto G5 Plus drivers should be already installed. Moreover, on your computer you must set up Android SDK – for the Windows platform you can use this step by step guide while for MAC OS X / Linux you can use this tutorial instead.

On your phone you should be able to use the Developer Options – if you can’t then first tap repeatedly on Built Number until you receive the ‘you are a developer’ message. Afterwards, from Developer Options (it should be located under “menu – > settings”) you must check the USB Debugging field.

One last thing: check the battery status bar on your smartphone. If the power left is currently lower than 50% plug in the charger; if different you can skip this process. The charging is required because if your device runs out of power its system will get turned off right in the middle of the TWRP flashing process. Well, in that particular situation your Moto G5 Plus might get soft bricked, so try to avoid such problems.
